I think Cringely is wrong in detail but right in overall thrust. iOS is Apple's future, but Apple's plan is for multiple comparatively inexpensive devices that share data and do their jobs well, not one thing that hooks up to accessories and works badly. The killer app for iPhone 5S is commerce and becoming your identity wallet (Google Authenticator is a similar play, but it simply becomes an app you prefer to keep on your iPhonr).
