I don't really think $20 increase is 'major' considering the hardware is brand new compared to the older SP model with a much faster CPU (i7 vs i5 class) and the other upgrades that came with it.
- ck2 13y agoIt is the overpriced Intel CPU. You aren't going to get much more done with that $80 server than this $30 server they sold to European customers (but not US/CA customers directly). http://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/kimsufi_16g.xml http://www.ovh.co.uk/dedicated_servers/kimsufi_16g.xml 4 real cores (HT is pointless in linux anyway) and runs "turbo" at 3.1ghz on all cores. 100mbps unlimited pipe. Same as the $80 server. Same 2TB software raid. Only the extra 16GB on the $80 is better, and $240 a year is a lot to pay for that extra 16GB If you needed a dedicated server for years, I'd much rather make the $30/mo one work itself to death than pay $500+ more a year for the $80. Especially if you needed several of them.
- SG- 13y agoHT is not worthless on Linux. It's not a true core but it does increase performance quite a bit, especially on a busy server.
