I'm from the "one set of friends childhood through high school" crowd and I have to admit that it took a few instances of getting dumped into situations where I didn't know anyone (college, first job after college) to get where I was socially comfortable in a new place. I don't have a big opinion on either side, other than too much disruption seems not good for kids if want to teach them the importance of relationships.
