Show HN? More like spam.
- jackmaney 13y agoTo be fair, I really don't think that the OP was trying to spam HN.
- camus 13y agoIt's a spam , even on reddit it is , the OP links to a page wide ad.. Want to promote a paid stuff ? buy an ad , just dont use HN.
- trumbitta2 13y agoI'm sorry, I did my research and found at least 3 ebooks linked on hacker news without complaints for spam, so I thought it was okay. BTW, I would be also interested in a discussion about the sales page, copy, style. I am a web developer, after all.
- louisdorard 13y agoIndeed, there was "Designing Web Applications" by Nathan Barry for instance. See discussion at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4909784 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4909784 . Very similar discussion on pricing by the way...
- clarky07 13y agoHow is it spam? The whole point of "Show HN" is showing off products people have made. What could you have possibly expected clicking on a Show HN with ebook in the title?
- andmarios 13y agoThe problem here is that following the link I didn't see a product, I saw an advert for a product. Show HN imo is a way to get feedback for your creation. In this case, in order to be able to provide feedback, I have to pay first $29—59. Posting your commercial product in HN is an easy way to get tens of thousands of views. So either we should let anyone with a digital product advertise it here (think of any ebook, of any smartphone app, etc) and destroy essentially HN, or let no one.
- clarky07 13y agoThat's absurd. Is he supposed to give it away to do a show HN? Every show HN is a link to a landing page. None of the SaaS apps are free either. You are showing people what you built. Perhaps asking for feedback on the website. You aren't giving it away for free to all of hn.
