I bookmarked your original ipad/linode article for later reading since I hadn't seen them. That notion of singular applications that you yourself control comes up a lot on HN, and it does seem like a great future. A whole ecosystem of supporting services (and maybe standards) would probably need to emerge were this to be the norm for how people compute, but it seems like it could be for the best, pushing the cloud all the way down to the user.
