Bitcoin in India: Drivers and Barriers to Adoption
- chatman 13y agoAs an Indian, I feel offended by the first illustration. Taj Mahal is our national pride and photoshopping a bitcoin on top of Taj Mahal is the most insensitive thing the author could have done.
- kiba 13y agoIf somebody photoshopped a bitcoin on the Statue of Liberty, I don't give a damn.
- litegeek 13y agoWell you're not okay because you;re insensitive to these things, but there are other people who like the person above who will be offended obviously and you should cater to them. "I'm not insensitive therefore others shouldn't too" is too lame of a reason. for example, surprisingly some people find rape okay (victim blaming etc) but doesn't mean it's okay for everyone. Just saying.
- karangoeluw 13y agoI'm an Indian. I don't give a crap about photoshop. What you should really feel offended by is the actual harms being done to the monument.
- litegeek 13y agoYou're probably a shitty Indian then. I'd love to photoshop you naked and post it perhaps all over the internet and see you say the same thing. (I'm not going to do it of course, but just saying)
- 3am 13y agoAs a non-Indian, I'm somewhat offended by the technical deficiency of the photoshop (they couldn't even be bothered to take care of the reflecting pool?) and the (imho) subpar analysis in the article itself.
- dobbsbob 13y agoSikhs in India consider the Taj Mahal a symbol of national oppression not pride.
- r0h1n 13y agoWhat specific grouse do Sikhs have against the Taj Mahal?
- aviraldg 13y ago-1. As an Indian, I feel offended by your (implicit) expectation that others should censor themselves because of your arbitrary ideas about what's insensitive and/or offensive.
- zedai 13y agoGoing through comments, Guys don't u think INDIA has bigger things to think for ?
- rwbt 13y agoOh please. Don't even get me started on the abuse of labeling things 'offensive' and 'insensitive'. Also, please don't say 'Taj Mahal' is 'our' national pride. It is just a historical monument, which doesn't represent anything related to modern India.
- cscurmudgeon 13y agoI am Indian too. I am offended that you are offended by something so trivial. Please get offended by the masses of hungry children or by the massive robbery that is being committed in daylight.
- dobbsbob 13y agoTo transfer money out of India through a bank you need an invoice, proof of income and basically gov permission.
- mknits 13y agoIt's very easy if you join the Congress party. You won't need anyone's permission and no one will ever try to investigate you.
- rwbt 13y agoI don't think the gov of India will ever understand the fundamental idea or the potential of Bitcoin. PayPal had issues with the regulatory bodies until very recently. Considering the red tape an average Indian has to face to open a bank account and the sheer number of ID cards issues by the gov (PAN, Aadhaar, UID etc), the financial regulatory system is a huge cluster#$@*, which I don't see changing anytime soon. Bottom line, I will be very surprised if some high court in India or the Financial ministry doesn't make it illegal in the next few years.
- dobbsbob 13y agoOne thing you can do is buy Okpay locally in India and then use that to buy/sell bit coins on BTC-e exchange.
