- christkv 13y agobecause mongo is an offensive word in a lot of countries
- z92 13y agothen so should be the word mongoDB
- outside1234 13y agoreally - which ones? (just curious)
- VeejayRampay 13y agoSweden for example, I think it's slang for people with Down's syndrome there or something.
- JimWestergren 13y agoIt's offensive in Sweden.
- xr09 13y agoIn spanish is a synonym for stupid, subnormal, idiot...
- antirez 13y agoItaly as well.
- the_mitsuhiko 13y agoIt's very offensive in German.
- danellis 13y agoSo how does that affect its usage in Germany? It's hard to imagine English speaking companies being comfortable with using, say, RetardDB.
- harshadura 13y agoin Sinhalese it means like: crazy, insane
- kinleyd 13y agoYes, mongo as in Mongoloid (Down's syndrome, not the race) is offensive in mostly English speaking, Caucasian contexts. However, I'd figure MongoDB becoming a well known term would break some of the offensiveness associated with the pejorative use of mongo. At the same time, I don't think anyone keen on MongoDB will be thinking of the pejoratives associated with some part of the name.
