emotional story and certainly not hacker news, is it?
- rtpg 13y ago>certainly not hacker news Everyone's been over this a million and a half times, but "not hacker news" means nothing: if it gets upvoted, it's of interest to the community, thus it is hacker news. Plus this is an anti-government regulation story, which has a very long success with this community.
- foobarbazqux 13y agoThe guidelines are very clear both about what is on-topic and also about what to do with off-topic stories.
- droithomme 13y agoPerhaps you could explain the benefit of this particular government regulation, or even link to the federal code that contains it. It seems strange to ban low income people from vegetable gardening, if that is really what is happening as the story implies.
- whathappenedto 13y agoI feel like this particular story is over the line. It's a sob story that's misleading--the USDA didn't say anything about the garden, instead it's the property management that forbid the gardening on their landscaping, by citing a USDA rule. I also highly doubt it's really the 4 year old's garden (a preschool child probably helps out with minor tasks with parental guidance at best), and instead she's just used as linkbait.
- foobarian 13y agoSlashdot went through this too around, eh, 2004. Started out hardcore techie, then slowly diluted with political and libertarian slanted stories. I think I even saw a dupe or two the other day!
