Lavabit founder: 'My own tax dollars are being used to spy on me'
- crazygringo 13y ago> "We are entering a time of state-sponsored intrusion into our privacy that we haven't seen since the McCarthy era." We need a new word. Communism is to McCarthyism as Terrorism is to... ???? It's going to be easier to start talking about government overreach since the Patriot Act, all in the name of protecting people from terrorism, if we give it a name. Except that, unlike McCarthyism, it isn't centered on any single person pushing it. Ideas?
- swombat 13y agoI'd call it Obamaism, except it seems to have been properly started and revved up under Bush, so giving that lying scumbag Obama all the credit for this seems undeserved. Perhaps link the two. Obama-Bush-ism?
- malandrew 13y agoTerrorism is to Terrorism. Both sides are selling fear. Both sides are terrorists. More here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6261416 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6261416
- rtpg 13y agoMy own tax dollars are being used to fund loads of projects I don't like. Tangential but odd point. Also, I find it interesting (no snark intended) that a guy who won't listen to voice mail still would use Facebook. Ironically, reading the thing on Groklaw hit me a lot harder than this guy's narrative. I can't help but imagine that the NSL he got couldn't have been that crazy, but his actions are his actions. I really want to know what's behind this
- pan69 13y agoI never listen to voice mails since I can't arsed to set it up and I only take calls from numbers I know. And I use Facebook (sometimes).
- kaonashi 13y agoFederal taxes don't fund anything, but point taken.
