I don't get it. Are the servers Apple Macs?
- DenisM 17y agoThey are mac minis. Ultra-small servers are the latest hot(or cold, as it were) trend, for example Dell just shipped this 30 watt server: http://perspectives.mvdirona.com/2009/05/22/ServerUnder30W.aspx http://perspectives.mvdirona.com/2009/05/22/ServerUnder30W.a... Apple has been at it for a while now: http://www.macminicolo.net/ http://www.macminicolo.net/
- dmytton 17y agomacminicolo.net is not an Apple company, they just allow you to colo a Mac Mini as a server.
- DenisM 17y agoWay to ruin my elaborate disinformation ploy. :-)
- CrazedGeek 17y agoI'd think that the servers would be primarily Xserves: http://www.apple.com/xserve/ http://www.apple.com/xserve/
- jonknee 17y agoWhile they're spending a billion dollars, I wouldn't be surprised if they developed some custom hardware.
- mseebach 17y ago> http://www.macminicolo.net/ http://www.macminicolo.net/ That seems like an incredibly inefficient way to use a Mac Mini. Doesn't OSX play well with virtualization?
- kylec 17y agoLegally, Apple only allows you to virtualize OSX Server, and it has to be on Apple-branded hardware. I suppose the main hurtle for MacMiniColo customers would be affording the license ($499 minimum). That said, MediaTemple is experimenting with this exact setup: http://mediatemple.net/labs/xv/ http://mediatemple.net/labs/xv/
