i would highly recommend a documentary called 'side by side' about the history of digital video cameras and analog film cameras in cinema/film. goes into the back story behind red, arri, panavision, sony, etc.
it's on netflix.
- protomyth 13y agoI second this and would add that some outtakes (called side swipes) are available on youtube[1] and a podcast. The Steven Soderbergh one is great[2]. Side by Side is a little dated, but it is an amazing and accessible show. Red is an amazing camera, but they also had good ideas in how to deal with film makers. 1) http://bit.ly/19EQjie http://bit.ly/19EQjie 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U00AEDLLzu4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U00AEDLLzu4
- ddeck 13y agoAnother vote for this. As someone who is outside the industry and knew very little about the process, I found it fascinating. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2014338/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2014338/
