Yahoo’s email service is now closed in China
- tehwebguy 13y agoClicked thinking this was Yahoo backing out of China and trying to ensure that none of this happens again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Yahoo!#Outing_of_Chinese_dissidents http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Yahoo!#Outing_of_C... But rather Yahoo in China is run by Alibaba, and they are attempting to push users toward their own service.
- samspenc 13y agoSo is Yahoo (or at least its Mail service) still in China or not at all? It wasn't clear from this article. Its clear Alibaba is taking over existing e-mails, but what about Yahoo itself?
- RougeFemme 13y agoIt seems that the search engine is still there. "Yahoo is not exiting China as the search engine. . ."
- chrischen 13y agoI'm reading the criticisms section and the US just looks extremely hypocritical. It's a joke. Basically Yahoo! Was criticized for giving ip access info to the government. Now all the US companies are doing the same thing for the US govt. So what exactly does this mean? A tacit admission that Chinese policies win? The only difference between the US and China now is that the US still pretends to care about privacy. Both countries are using surveillance to persecute what they think are enemies of the state.
