It is extremely unlikely that any "Craigslist cats" end up in research. Most animals used in research are bred specifically for that purpose, because genetic uniformity, lack of disease, and other things help to reduce confounding variables. It also is important to select for temperament and other qualities. Wild or domesticated cats and animals are generally not useful for research.
