If you have a job offer as a "Software Products Developer", you get pretty much automatic approval for up to a 3 year work permit. I have a friend who literally just brought his offer letter and CV to the border and got in, no paperwork or waiting. See http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/work/special-tech.asp http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/work/special-tech.asp for a little more info . Now, this doesn't help you if you don't have a Canadian employer, or if you're looking for something more permanent, but it's still pretty hacker friendly.
- argos 17y agoand does anyone know about companies that look for foreign software developers?
- dreamz 17y agoyou're right - also canadian hackers are known as one of the best, especially from waterloo area that has one of the best university ... also special tech. visa category is going to hit hard if US doesn't change their policy around H1B visa - i see so many hackers who now come to canada just because their employers couldn't get them thru under H1B or because of some nonsense bureaucracy... canada being next door neighbor, full advantage is being taken by the employers under this fantastic tech. visa category... also once you're in canada it becomes much easier to get permanent residency and then citizenship... i have also seen many H1B visa holders who cant get green card for some reason, so they come to canada as permanent residence and then work here or go back to USA on NAFTA work visa (TN) category ... basically if you come to canada all the doors of the world opens for you and sky is the limit...., though CAUTION: it wont be a cake walk if you're trying to settle down here ...
