The Cult of Done Manifesto
- jimfl 17y agoIt's a good start.
- maxtilford 17y agoThe pictures add a lot to the list.
- sharpn 17y ago"4.Pretending you know what you're doing is almost the same as knowing" - no, it's not. And such hubris can prevent knowledge discovery (besides the loss of reputation).
- daeken 17y agoI think the way it's presented (the use of "pretending" in particular) is poor, but I think the idea behind it is good. Not knowing what you're doing shouldn't stop you from doing it, it simply means you have things to learn before you're done. If you're willing to accept that and seek knowledge and help where appropriate (and don't deceive others about it, as pretending tends to imply), behaving as if you know what you're doing is a good means of personal growth and getting fresh ideas into a project you're joining.
- bravura 17y ago"Much of the excitement we get out of our work is that we don't really know what we are doing." -- E. Dijkstra Indeed, as a scientist and entrepreneur, I have realized that it is deadly to be paralyzed by not knowing what to do. So Bre Pettis's advice stands.
- zzkt 17y agothere should be an emphasis on the "almost".
- 10ren 17y ago9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
- hapless 17y agoVery Mao. Done grows from the barrel of a gun. The mass line represents the creative and productive energies of the masses of the Cult of Done, which are potentially inexhaustible. To hear incorrect views without rebutting them and even to hear counter-revolutionary remarks without reporting them, but instead to take them calmly as if nothing had happened, is a failure of Done.
- 10ren 17y agoIt's not saying to not listen to experienced people. It's saying to not listen to people who haven't done anything.
- swolchok 17y agoWhat about things that don't stay DONE? (i.e., what about entropy?) This may be a case of productivity porn. (a common gtd-related term)
- raintrees 17y agoI'm still young at less than 50 :) but the journey is becoming much more enjoyable and important to me than just knocking out another destination...
- spolsky 17y agomight want to switch to decaf, there...
- vicaya 17y ago"Done" is overrated. It just gives you false/fake sense of control, which can be addictive. Give it up. "Doing" instead.
- mad44 17y agoI would not want to use the products "done" by you.
