This made me wonder what fathers would write about their children when I was young (1970),

  Probably the same thing, but it would be the Sunday papers instead. We've always had distractions that divide our time. I remember my father spending hours in his shed carving rocking horses, or sitting on the couch with a gigantic tapestry he was working on. Not that I don't think the author has some very valid points, and it's certainly going to make me think next time I'm at my laptop and one of my kids comes into the room.
