It ought to be a surprise. It certainly is contrary to all the rhetoric that I swallowed hook, line and sinker in high school about what kind of country the USA is.
I'm willing to bet that Chomsky was not surprised one bit by these revelations.
- npsimons 13y agoHell, according to line I was sold, Chomsky would have fit right in with the founding fathers. That's also assuming you can believe history.

A nation naturally seeks to preserve itself, so perhaps that's not surprising, but it's worth pondering for a moment.
