The search for a nearby second Earth
- RobertL 17y agoUse mars. But you need to fix it. Earth's core is radioactive and that's where the energy comes from to keep our core molten. Molten core is needed. Otherwise all the water seeps to the center leaving you dry topside. Mars core lost it's radioactivity sometime in the past that's where the water went. So here's my idea. Let's crank up our nuclear program and send all the nuclear waste up to Mars where it will be dropped down deep shafts in an attempt to get the mars core molten again. At the same time you send little space "tugs" up to tie on to asteroids (one at a time) in the asteroid belt and guide them individually into collisions with Mars. You target the collisions so each one gradually moves the planet into an orbit that's closer to the sun. Each collision also increases the planets mass and hence it's gravity. Need a little more gravity there also to make it habitable. Could take a few thousands of years to reach the objective but I think Mars could eventually be an inhabited sister planet.
- nazgulnarsil 17y agothis must be some definition of the word "nearby" that i was previously unaware of.
- PaulMorgan 17y agoIn light years Alpha Centauri is right next door, just down the street, within spitting distance...nearby.
