This is the death of twitter, it will become just another propaganda machine. People who like propaganda machine will continue to use twitter, people who don't like propaganda machine will use other microblogging tools instead of twitter.
- BgSpnnrs 13y agoIs there a decently populated microblogging tool that people are migrating to?
- alan_cx 13y agoYeah. In the UK we call it a "pub".
- parfe 13y agoWouldn't want to impinge on your free speeches. Dissident dialogue might be unfairly silenced, such as this comment: https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/363160225873805312 https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/363160225873805312
- alan_cx 13y agoInteresting that lower down the comment is referred to as a joke. However, things said that are clearly jokes, can result in arrest and prosecution, then jail. Weird.
- parfe 13y agoThat's a different user referring to a different comment made over voice chat on xbox.
- makomk 13y ago> https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/363160225873805312 https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/363160225873805312 That's awful and obviously shouldn't be allowed. On the other hand, given how serious rape threats are, you would presumably agree that anyone who used those rape threats to pressure for censorship of political viewpoints they disagreed with was trivialising rape and should be called out for doing so?
- parfe 13y agoAre you saying the victims of rape threats are trivialising rape by expecting twitter to intervene?
- makomk 13y agoNo. It is, so far as I know, possible for Twitter to intervene against rape threats without also engaging in censorship of undesirable political viewpoints.
- andrewcooke 13y agono, not at all. how is talking about the threat of something trivialising it? you're just playing cheap word games for politics.
- betterunix 13y agoI was thinking more like this: http://www.wired.com/business/2010/04/apple-bans-satire/ http://www.wired.com/business/2010/04/apple-bans-satire/ Or maybe "just" this: http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/06/29/texas-teen-facing-eight-years-after-violent-league-of-legends-threat/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/06/29/texas-teen...
- ronaldx 13y ago> This is the death of twitter Quite possibly the opposite: If this leads to a requirement for microblogging tools to manage their content, Twitter has the most resources to throw at the problem. This allows them to protect their position as the largest incumbent.
