I don't know. I jumped into Rails without a good understanding of Ruby, and there were a lot of things in it that just felt too "magical" to me. I never got that feeling with Django, but I was already somewhat familiar with Python before I ever gave django a try, so I'm not sure how it would be for someone new to Python.
