That's a really interesting machine vision problem and a lot more complex than a JPEG codec. :-)
I wonder how long before we start to see Kinect-like infrared cameras mounted on phones to make the depth problem easier to solve. That would be cool!

- jpap 13y agoThere's still much innovation left in image signal processing... and fortunately much interest in taking good photos! This reminds me of research into superresolution, an area that's "super interesting" :-) as well. The guys who started Occipital (360 Panorama), I believe, tried to dabble in that with ClearCam many years ago... but I honestly don't know much about it. Anyone from Occipital here on HN?
