We can have our cake and eat it too. Send the DNT header flag, but purposefully edit analytics requests. Thus, providers must honor DNT requests or risk a poisoned well of data. This is not theoretical, I have a Chrome plugin which does this to Google Analytics requests, and am increasingly tempted to release it to the world.
