I see people here making this story about pervasive surveillance. I think that you don't realize that this device was set up by the owner with this feature with the intent of backing up his (hers?) own pictures. The thief is using that phone without disabling that feature. The original owner didn't ask for his phone to be stolen, and most definitely didn't ask to get his thief's pictures sent to him. This is not about pervasive surveillance, it's about a thief being an idiot (which if the pictures have anything to say, travels quite a bit).
