Since so many people here are saying Heroku, Linode, or AWS, I'm wondering if someone could explain the value proposition of these over a cheap VPS for most small to medium deployments.
I can get a 4GB ram VPS for $10/m, which seems orders of magnitude cheaper than the popular options. What am I missing out on?

- ddod 13y agoI personally use UGVPS and ChicagoVPS. You can find a bunch of offers on lowendbox and webhostingtalk

- andypants 13y agoFor heroku and other PaaS's, there's no need to manage a server. Don't need to set it up, don't need to maintain it, keep software up to date, etc.
- trafficlight 13y agoPublishing to Heroku is as simple as 'git push'. Scaling is super easy too. Need a second instance of your webserver? 'heroku ps:scale web=2' is all you need to do.
- joshka 13y agoRe: Heroku, free > not-free 4GB is unnecessary for small apps that aren't doing alot. Managing a VPS takes non-zero time, heroku takes as close to zero time as required. Your use case sounds different though, hence you're probably not missing anything.
