I want to chime in that I have been using a similar setup: nginx, ngx-postgres, postgresql 9.2.4 in production for a while. It has been very snappy and rock solid till this point. I used android async-http to talk to the server from my app to have everything online. This is an intranet app so latency is not really an issue.
