I use both vim or Emacs depending on the task. Evil mode gives the vim key mappings and makes the transition mostly painless. I'd also recommend using IDO. For me this is one of the best things about Emacs.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that if someone wants to stick with Emacs for all of their editing to learn the traditional Emacs key bindings and not use evil-mode.
