It's not enough to just be deep into a given platform. You also have to be an excellent writer. I find much of the content Gruber writes about to be pandering to Apple. But. I still read everything he writes because he's obviously thoughtful and an excellent writer. In fact, take out Gruber and I don't see the Apple tech writers/bloggers to be any better than anyone else. Siracusa doesn't write much (unfortunately). Marco Arment is flame-batey with his opinions. Is there anyone out there at the level of Gruber in terms of writing skills?
