For men, “leaning out” just isn’t an option
- purplelobster 13y agoI'd just like to add that this is a bit less true in some European countries, specifically with regards to fatherhood. With the introduction of "use it or lose it" paternity leave, it's getting much more accepted and even expected for fathers to take a few months off. When you see men with strollers everywhere, and fathers hanging out at the park in groups while their kids are playing, attitudes tend to change pretty quickly. It's just one area though, the "man up, grow a pair" attitude will probably always be there.
- lhnz 13y agoI like the comment that disagrees and then ends by saying "I am not sure what Mr. Dao is looking for except a hug." Tut tut Mr. Dao. Did you think you were going to be allowed to "lean out" just then?
- JPKab 13y agoGood article, and correct in the context of the vast majority of the United States, with the exception of the extremely left of center regions of the country.
- cafard 13y ago"Francisco Dao is the founder of 50Kings, a private community for technology and media innovators. He is a former leadership columnist for Inc.com, a lifelong entrepreneur, author, and former stand-up comic." In his world, I imagine that there is some truth to his reflections. Not many Americans live in such a world, and only so many more aspire to. I live in a mostly upper middle class neighborhood where I know at least four husbands not working, having been caught by national, local, or organizational politics. A couple are more or less of retirement age, a couple aren't. It is possible that they are suffering more than I see, but I definitely don't see it.
