Farm laborers get paid by how productive they are rather than by the hour. It's shit work but pays 2-3x more "per hour" than Wal Mart. Plus it's easy to pack in a lot of work, whereas Wal-Mart generally only lets employees work about 30 hours a week.

- rdouble 13y agoRight, but they make all their money over a few months, so the per-hour take home is more than Wal Mart. I'm not suggesting that it's a good job, only offering an explanation as to why someone would choose to do it vs. a minimum wage job.
