There's a difference between an obsession, your life's work, and something you do to make a living. It can be nice if they cross paths, but as you say, far too many people confuse working long hours with being "productive" or "responsible" or "hard-working". I think a big test is: how do you feel after a day of work? If you just feel like vegging in front of the TV, you might want to reconsider how you spent the day.
