Demigods formed this government during the Heroic Age, the most perfect the world has ever known, and while we understand that we mere Iron Age mortals may controvert its principles with certain actions, at its core the government is fundamentally the same. Under cover of this shared belief the American government has a wide degree of latitude to collude with corporations, torture, and spy on its own citizens. They are permitted to do this because the American citizen believes, and would prefer to believe, it is done in his own best interests; because the possibility of it affecting him directly is remote; and because even if he wanted to effect change he is after all only one person.
