He probably doesn't realize that it would have never been as successful without Google's data power. So yes, he could have opened his own company and released a Reader, just that no one would come to know about it.
- massless 13y agoSmall correction: Actually, I've long asserted that Google's infrastructure and talent are key reasons that Reader was successful. I think that neither in the interview, nor the article, did I suggest that – though I could be mistaken.
