In Britain we have a lower minimum wage for under 18s (and a higher but still low min for under 21s) which seems like a reasonable compromise.

- danielweber 13y agoI'd like more information on how that works. What happens when they age out? Do people advertise for jobs and say "only people under 21 can apply?"
- jiggy2011 13y agoI'm not sure what you mean by age out? You're not allowed to age discriminate in hiring, so you can't advertise jobs on that basis.
- danielweber 13y agoIf you can pay someone 9 euros at age 20, but have to pay them 10 euros when they turn 21, what happens when they turn 21? How do employers know they can legally pay one person less than the other? Does the employer find out they are 16 and then lower their pay to 6 euros?
- jiggy2011 13y agoYou just start paying them more when they turn 21. Not sure if it kicks in at the start of the month/day/hour of their birthday though. https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates You wouldn't lower the pay, you'd likely just start them out at the lower rate.
