With a larger number of startups, there will likely be some amount more of hits per year, but I think the cap (or even large percent of growth) is not actually determined by this. Rather, I suspect that the 'about 15 big hits a year' is actually more about the public (and how many 'new' things the masses will actually adopt a year) than it is about the overall number of new startups each year.
