Amsterdam, Netherlands. Work permit and relocation assistance provided.
We want developers who like to have fun and socialize outside of work, but care about their jobs, too. We're looking for UX designers, front-end and back-end developers.
UX designer: use Photoshop, Gimp, or whatever makes your socks roll up and down and you know how to make Web and/or mobile applications work for customers. Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS also needed.
Front-end developer: you can make Web sites do exactly what you want them to do, regardless of the browser or operating system the web site is running on. Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS required.
Back-end developers: you know what it takes to power the back-end of large web sites. You understand scalability issues and can explain the difference between an inner and outer join. You know what O(log N) is and why it's important. Your programming language history isn't important because you're good enough to learn a new language if needed.
All positions: not looking for rock stars. Looking for competent technical talent who are willing to move to Europe (unless you're already here). We have many expats working here and we'll even help pay for Dutch lessons, if you want them.
We also like people who understand business because you'll be expected to make many of your own decisions without having to ask permission from management for every little thing that you do. You will have the power to get stuff done, work with a great bunch of people and be able to spend your five weeks of vacation time cruising across Europe and discovering why Amsterdam is such a beautiful city.

- jacques_chester 13y agoWho downvoted this? And why?
- Peroni 13y agoI certainly didn't but it was more than likely because they are a recruitment company - http://www.allaroundtheworld.fr/who-we-are.html http://www.allaroundtheworld.fr/who-we-are.html
- Ovid 13y agoYup, we're a recruitment company (amongst other things). However, we're very specialized. We focus on international IT recruiting where companies are willing to sponsor you for a work permit (or the local equivalent). This is because my wife and I are both serial expats and we believe that people should be able to live anywhere in the world they want (we're not saying it's practical, but it's still our dream). Thus, since we have a lot of background in this area, I'm moderately well-known in the IT world and I keep getting companies contacting me to help them find people (because of my "how to become an expat" blog http://www.overseas-exile.com/ http://www.overseas-exile.com/), we decided that we'd create a company to help people live their dreams. We're proud of the fact that we help people move to other countries. We're particularly happy with one young developer who escaped a violence-filled, high unemployment country. Of course, since we're "just recruiters", we're stereotyped and there's no easy way to shake that, but I'm proud of the work we do.
- Peroni 13y agoHey, don't get me wrong. I'm certainly not saying you deserved to be downvoted. I'm an ex-agency recruiter and I know better than most how much hate recruiters get on HN - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2753958 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2753958 I was simply shedding some light on why I think people are downvoting you.
- Ovid 13y agoThat's a fair point and a very enlightening post. Thanks for sharing it :) So far we've not really gotten much direct hate from folks, but it happens from time to time. I suspect the fact that we're trying to help people move to other countries might make us look a bit nicer, but it's tough to say.
- latch 13y agoMy first guess is that the downvoter(s) think this is for booking.com...I initially did (but I didn't downvote, because on second look, it isn't clear). There are a lot of bad stories about working at booking.com...one of those things you don't even know how you know, but you realize it must get brought up a lot for that association (and only that association) to exist with the company. edit: now I did downvote it for posting a duplicate where a simple list of countries would have sufficed.
- Ovid 13y ago> edit: now I did downvote it for posting a duplicate where a simple list of countries would have sufficed. Um, uh, er. Yeah, you're right, darn it. I didn't think about that (duh), but in retrospect, it should have been obvious to me :( I won't make that mistake again. Thanks for pointing it out!
- mattmanser 13y agoHe doesn't actually say who is hiring because it's an agency and has posted multiple times to the thread. Not what we want on here at all. The Who is mightily important and he won't say. It's an abuse of this thread.

- just_testing 13y agoIf you take a look at the ads, instead of skimming them, you'll see each ad is for a different company in a different city. So it makes sense to have multiple posts and it is in no way spamming. Just consider a single post saying "Hey, we have several positions in several places in the world", that does not convey any information. They are trying to be helpful and you're replying with "screw it, they're recruiters". Disclaimer: I use their services. They are in no way a shitty recruiter service and in the first e-mail exchange they say which is the company.

- booking_emp 13y agoGuys, please be aware that this is indeed for Booking.com. This company treats its developers like dogs. Please read the links below before applying to the company https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5803798 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5803798 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5923178 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5923178 http://blogs.perl.org/users/bookingemployee/2012/03/truth-about-bookingcom.html http://blogs.perl.org/users/bookingemployee/2012/03/truth-ab... Can the moderator please stop recruiters from posting on this forum.
- Ovid 13y agoA bunch of "single post" accounts all designed to attack one company? Add in someone impersonating brian d foy, a well known Perl dev (and you use almost exactly the same wording) and it really looks like you're a disgruntled ex-employee who's out to hurt this company.
- booking_emp 13y ago@Curtis (Ovid) Poe: I am not going to make an ad hominem retort directed at you as I am aware of your contribution to Perl and also that you are legally bound by Booking.com not to speak ill about them. All that I am saying is, there are a lot of ways of making money and it isn't correct to put your reputation at stake to advertise a tainted company such as Booking.com for a couple of thousand euros. The frequent advertisement for developers is not only due to the exodus of senior devs (including you) from the company but also because booking is trying to create a redundant pool of devs so that the business doesn't get effected by this employee churn. If an employee complains he/she is asked to leave the company and all that is because they have a huge cash reserve built out of years of underpaying developers and exploiting hotels. Years of copy paste has made the code unmaintainable and I am not talking about the new code Aevar and you had written for Booking::Search but Booking::Maxotel, Availability, Policy system, Search::Which, Search::When, etc. I have never seen a company which rebukes its developers for refactoring or treat its developers like dogs except at Booking. As they have a real bad reputation in the Perl community they are trying to get developers from other communities who are ignorant. Booking.com not only mistreats its developers they also bully the hotels using their monopoly. Successful lawsuits have been filed against the company for price fixing as can be googled. Only if a dev is unemployed should he consider working for Booking.com. There are a lot of good companies and they are actively seeking employees including here in the UK.
