If western countries had enough balls to stand up against the US demands, maybe it would not turn into such a bully. It's our indifference that led us to wars, drones, surveillance, etc. Not a single country would be allowed to act this way.
- criley2 13y agoOh pah-leeze. The "Five Eyes" western electronic surveillance alliance leaked by Snowden is: UK, USA, Canada, NZ, Australia. The Western countries aren't poor victims, most of the big players are complicit allies! And to boot: We've learned that our "Five Eyes" partners, like the UK, are engaging in worse surveillance than the US! The UK organization boasts broader data collection, deeper records and less judicial oversight than their American counterparts. This isn't a "America running roughshod over the West" story like you're pretending, it's a "the western governments are colluding against their citizens" story. Oh -- wait, sorry, this thread is clearly an anti-America circlejerk. Keep pretending everyone is innocent except the USA! Carry on!
- Mordor 13y agoOh, they won't bother when it's clear they need China more than the US.
- cpursley 13y ago" Not a single country would be allowed to act this way." Going point.
- gscott 13y agoApparently we are sharing data with Australia and Britain so likely many others too. They don't need to spy on their populations when we will do it for them and give them the data.
- ewbuoi 13y agoApparently this has been common since at least the cold war.
