By any chance, is he being sarcastic ? I myself sometimes find it very hard with some people in figuring out whether they are just joking or are serious. Even when they joke, they just have a straight face and say it seriously. From the look of it, I feel the manager is just pulling a joke on you. Specially with the LinkedIn stuff.... But maybe I'm wrong.
