To anyone who thinks this is just a theoretical problem: It's worth noting that law enforcement complained abut both Skype and Hushmail being impossible to tap before tapping both. It seems vanishingly unlikely they either haven't figured out a way to get Apple to help them or to get will at some point. This just confirms it. Also, for what its worth, at least one of the IMessage handshake headers mentions Fairplay. Which makes me suspect the system was done by Apple's DRM team. Given that DRM is typically an exercise in obfuscation more than actual crypto, this does not bode well.
