Incidentally, I don't think the conveyor system is to reduce theft-- it's due to the lack of space. 35k ft^2 is only enough to keep display models of most items out on the sales floor (I'm guessing their total product line is >300k SKUs) Most of their store inventory is in the basement warehouse (and plenty of other inventory must be off-site entirely). There's simply no other way of fulfilling that much volume in a real-time retail environment.
