I took both AP American History and AP Government at about the same time, at a very good school with a pretty liberal teaching staff. I never heard about COINTELPRO in either one. My only exposure to it before college was from my father who was a '70s activist. Even in university, most people in the progressive groups I was a part of hadn't heard of it. You had a very special teacher if you learned about it in High School.
