Writing compilers and data processing with a fairly compact mathematically inspired notation. So I'd recommend it for problems where you are doing lots of abstract modelling, algorithmic work and/or need a rich static typing system. It's strict (as opposed to lazy) functional language which generally generates fast and predictable performance executables.
