People have pretty low expectations of a mainstream op/dance song, so once you've got a decent hook writing the producing the rest of the track is a by-the-numbers exercise. Bear in mind that the talentless frontman is also backed by a huge marketing budget, whereas the average self-promoting producer has little or none - most labels don't have any significant budget for promotions.
