Web providers must limit internet's carbon footprint, say experts
- ajkirwin 17y agoI'm sorry, but no. Why should I have to? It's hardly my fault if governments, regulators and companies cannot build enough power plants.
- bitwize 17y agoBecause saving the planet relies on all of us. The power is YOURS.
- ajkirwin 17y agoHahaha. You know, there's a little truth in that. There does seem to be a sort of.. Captain Planet-esque attitude to all this. "If we can just STOP the carbon everything will MAGICALLY get better and there will be PUPPIES and RAINBOWS." I, for one, envision a future where the climate has already gone to shit and people go, "Fuck. Instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars trying to reduce our carbon output, why didn't we spend it on ways to deal with the EFFECTS of the change instead!"
- anamax 17y agoIf AGW is actually an issue, saving the planet relies on getting the no-nukes folks out of the way. And don't get me started about flying Air Force One to photo ops, even to a wind turbine factory.
- bitwize 17y agoLarge-scale nuclear power is not an option until the waste-disposal problem is solved safely and cost-effectively. Good luck with that.
- iamcalledrob 17y agoI'm afraid: More power plants != lower carbon footprint
- ajkirwin 17y agoTrue. But a lot of that article seemed to be focusing not on carbon footprint, but electricity use. The title is somewhat misleading. Infact, the entire gist of it was, in my eyes, "Servers are using TOO MUCH ELECTRICITY. WHAT CAN WE DO."
