- dualogy 13y agoArguably it was the case for most of US history, except the few decades after winning WW2 and worldwide USD deployment ;)
- igravious 13y agoThe Allies won WW2, Russia arguably sacrificed the most - the US benefited from the Allies victory and the decline of the British empire to assert near-global economic and military hegemony.
- lostlogin 13y agoJust to knit pick - The USSR pretty much won that war, they sure did some of the harder yards.
- patrickk 13y agoCorrect. 93% of German casualties were inflicted by the Red Army[1]. Operation Overlord was part of a 'blood debt' that Stalin felt western allied leaders owed him. The Russians would've likely taken Berlin eventually without the western allies opening up the western front, despite what Band of Brothers etc. might tell you. - sanoli 13y agoThis Hollywood effect is spread throughout the world (since Hollywood pretty much is spread throughout the world today). Here in South America if there was a movie about WWII on tv, it was with the US beating the germans. Never saw one with russians. Brazil never even made a movie about the brazilians who went over to fight in Europe. Hollywood is, culturally, very very powerful.
- lostlogin 13y agoYes. See Blackhawk down, or the angle on the New Zealand involvement in Iranian hostage crisis movie Argo. http://www.3news.co.nz/NZs-role-in-Iran-crisis-tainted-in-Afflecks-film-Argo/tabid/418/articleID/273069/Default.aspx http://www.3news.co.nz/NZs-role-in-Iran-crisis-tainted-in-Af...
- dualogy 13y ago> Just to knit pick Not sure if intentionally or accidentally ironic..
- lostlogin 13y agoAccidental - my wife is obsessed with knitting and a she was discussing it at the time. Never be too snarky, look what happens!
- ipostonthisacc 13y agoIt definitely still isn't the case. That's why it's still debatable where he should go next and there aren't a lot of choices.
