But the reality of ease of extradition may be very different than what the laws would suggest. The US has been secretly breaking its own most basic laws. Maybe Sweden does, too.
- tptacek 13y agoI'm amused by the meme emergent from the Assange debacle that Sweden is some US client state, but the UK is fiercely independent. Like Sweden is Belarus, and nobody really knows anything about them.
- b6 13y agoI wasn't aware of any such meme. I don't think many Assange supporters have a positive view of the UK. I certainly don't. The lying criminals in one government are willing to work with the lying criminals in other governments.
- whodoneit 13y agoWe know a lot about Sweden and they are for all intents and purposes a US client state. Americans seem oblivious to how their government "project power" round the world. This is how it goes: Majority in parliament or equivalent: "we're not going to buy US fighter jets"/"we won't support this war"/"we're going to go on record saying that this group of people deserve some kind of basic human rights support". Anonymous US embassy source: "That would be extremely ill advised". Majority in parliament: "Oops, sorry. Forgot who we were working for there." Democracy is great.
