The Altair wasn't really the first, though. Then there was the Datapoint 2200 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datapoint_2200 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datapoint_2200 , the "terminal" for which the Intel 8008 was originally designed.
