Slightly off topic, but if we're talking about simplicity...
why are people still using this doctype:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
instead of the beautifully simple HTML5 doctype:
<!DOCTYPE html>
I get that people might use the old doctype out of habit, but it's such an ugly, unnecessary habit, and it would probably be smart to work on discarding it. At the very least, we should be making sure that new developers learn the new doctype.
- mijustin 13y agoDang it! You're right. Bad habit. :( I've just updated it. Thanks!
- sidcool 13y agoIs a DOCTYPE even required?
- dendory 13y agoI personally still code HTML 4.01 instead of 5 by habit. I also use <font> and other things that HTML5 is trying to get rid of. But I cling to older things. I also write all my code in Notepad++.
- lmm 13y agoBetter compatibility with old browsers? This seems like the kind of site and attitude that wants to be accessible to as many people as possible.
