Ouch: mEgo Gets Kicked Out Of Demo
- dfranke 19y agoWow, they kicked them out of the conference, and then refused to refund $18k? Unless their contract very explicitly lets them do that, I hope mEgo sues for conversion and cleans up.
- chaostheory 19y agothe question is can mEgo afford to sue? It may cost a lot more than $18k to fight back (not to mention time, energy, and focus)... besides Arrington is right. With the DEMO incident mEgo has a lot more face time now
- dfranke 19y agoNah. It would be a pretty straightforward piece of litigation and would most likely just settle. $18k enough to be able to tell a lawyer "Just take care of this, I don't want to hear about it" and still come out ahead.
- henning 19y agoIt was morally/ethically wrong to not refund the money if not a breach of contract, but then again I think mEgo is getting publicity you can't buy. I hadn't heard of them before this.
- dfranke 19y agoThe audience is probably too small and homogeneous to be worth very much. See http://redeye.firstround.com/2006/05/53651.html http://redeye.firstround.com/2006/05/53651.html.
- vlad 19y agoGreat unanswered question in the comments: "I just wonder though... Mike, the same rules were on for TC40 - you had to launch at the conference right? So if someone had blatantly broken the rules and demo'd at another conference, would you have kicked them?"
