Could you please just change your username to something like michaelochurchhatesgoogleperf, and then TRY to limit your comments on articles about Google to things that are remotely topical?
- michaelochurch 13y agoIs that your attempt to take me to The Perf Room? I'm not at Google anymore, so I have no fear of it. Google's Perf Room is just a cheap knock-off of Room 101. I don't think most of the branch offices even have a dedicated Perf Room.
- VikingCoder 13y agoIt clearly has so much power over your life. You bring it up at the drop of a hat. You're like the guy at a party who starts EVERY sentence with "One time, my ex-girlfriend..." EDIT: And honestly, it's a better comparison than I first thought: all of your rants about "Open Allocation" sound exactly like the crap I'd hear from someone who wanted an "Open Relationship" with his ex-girlfriend.
- michaelochurch 13y agoI enjoy sharing amusing facts that are embarrassing to established players, and it's also good for society. Such a thing has little power over my life, actually, because I can cease at any time. It's hilarious to me that a company actually has a physical space called a Perf Room. How does a person not find that funny? You might think I'm in pain, but I actually enjoy some good entertainment. On open allocation, I believe that it's our duty as a generation to end closed allocation for good. It serves absolutely no purpose in a technology company (in fact, if you're running closed allocation, you should become a hedge fund because you're not a technology company, so you might as well re-tool to something with money in it) and there's immense profit to be made for all sides in ending it. We can be the dinosaurs, or we can be the meteor. I choose the latter.
- VikingCoder 13y agoHOW DOES PERF HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS ARTICLE? It doesn't! You think you could cease at any time, just like every person addicted to pain. And yeah, maybe you really do enjoy telling ex-girlfriend stories for some masochistic reason, but is that honestly constructive in your life? Does that really embarrass HER? Is it really good for society that we know what YOU think about her? Or is it just SAD that you keep bringing her up, again and again and again? She seems pretty happy without you, dude. Let it go. And her new boyfriend is not automatically an idiot, just because it didn't work out between you two. If you're in a relationship with her (employed by a company), you have an honest reason to want to make the relationship work (make the company better), and to provide constructive criticism. Now, you're just bitching about it. Again and again and again. And to us, it sounds like your main problem with her, was that you couldn't have an 'Open Relationship.' Do you get how crazy that sounds to all of us? Many people have responded to tell you this. Are we all wrong? If you want to work on what you want to work on, then A) find a company that does exactly that, or B) go be an entrepreneur. Expecting existing businesses to change how they work is a TANTRUM. That you think it's embarrassing to Google that they didn't give you want you want makes you an idiot. They're doing fine. If I remember correctly, you said your next job was an even worse experience for you. You voted with your feet (like you claim Closed Allocation prohibits), and it totally backfired on you. Your boss sucked: vote with your feet, and move on with your life.
- michaelochurch 13y agoYou've been Perf'd.
- VikingCoder 13y agoTell us more about your ex-girlfriend, Michael. It's really entertaining and insightful. She would be such a better person if she would have just done what you told her, and her point of view is completely invalid. Tell us more. I especially like how you channeled Ashton Kutcher. That really demonstrates how committed you are to logic and reason.
- nostrademons 13y agoThe main office also doesn't have a dedicated Perf Room.
- michaelochurch 13y agoWhat did they do with the space? Do they get their Perf on in the hallways then?
- TannerTJ 13y agoWhat is a perf room? Had to ask
- nostrademons 13y agoIn some of Michael's previous comments, he's said that there is a dedicated Perf Room at Google where managers go to come up with secret calibration scores that decide each employee's future. I and every other Googler I know have never heard of such a Perf Room - calibration happens quarterly in an ordinary conference room where the managers within a department get together and cross-check each others' scores to make sure that no manager is inappropriately favoring or hurting their own reports at promotion time. I can only assume that someone was pulling his leg with a sarcastic comment and he took it literally.
