I've never noticed a problem. I have the same set-up aside from running OS X 10.8.3.

  That's odd. Maybe it's a Mac bug. I even tried starting Firefox is safe mode with: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -safe-mode ... and still the same problem
